Newsletter March

Dear Au Pairs and Host Families,

Congratulations to all medal winners in the 2014 Winter Olympic games! See the final medal count here. In Colorado the best snow conditions are late-December to early-March. So now is one of the best times to go ski or snowboard if you haven’t tried it yet! Ski areas typically close mid to late April; however, A-Basin is open until June and extends later each year it seems.

oscar awards

Movie lovers already know that Academy Awards will be giving out Oscars to the best movies and actors on March 2nd. Many movie fans organize Oscar parties- you too can organize one if your host family is Ok with it.  Enjoy!

Saturday, March 15, St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Denver, starting around 10 a.m.  The parade packs the sidewalks of Blake Street with residents of the city. Most of whom are wearing some sort of green, as well as a myriad of other St. Patty’s Day apparel to celebrate the Irish. This is great fun and I encourage all of you to consider getting together, watching the parade, and then have lunch.

First Day of Spring  is March 20th!

Spring Forward!

Please do not forget that we will be changing clocks on March 8th to daylight savings time. So remember to set your clocks an hour ahead and enjoy the longer days!

March 21- 23rdDenver March Powwow. Since 1984, the heritage of American Indians has been celebrated in Denver every year at the Denver March Powwow, one of the largest events of its kind in the country. The Powwow features more than 1,600 dancers from close to 100 tribes from 38 states and three Canadian provinces. The three-day event in the Denver Coliseum is packed with singing, dancing, storytelling, food, art and more, ensuring a wonderful experience for everyone.

Important Program Improvements!

Cultural Care Au Pair continues to push industry standards higher and higher. We are excited to announce enhancements and additions that will make Cultural Care’s program better for you and your family.

New driver’s safety course

As you already know, before you welcome an au pair into your home, she/he will attend a 4-day training program on St. John’s University campus in Oakdale, New York. In addition to the American Red Cross CPR/AED and first aid certification, starting in February au pair will be taking another useful course on Driver’s Safety. This course, delivered by the American Red Cross, is designed to familiarize au pairs with American driving laws, signs and protocols.

This will be a helpful refresher course and might be beneficial to prepare au pairs for their driving tests. However, this course does not guarantee au pair’s driving abilities and each host family is responsible for their own screening on au pair’s driving background and evaluate her/his driving skills in person after arrival.

New recruitment countries

Cultural Care Au Pair has the largest selection of au pairs in the industry and they come from over 20 countries worldwide. Now we have included the Czech Republic and South Africa! Our dedicated Cultural Care offices oversee recruitment for each au pair in every country, never outsourcing recruitment to third-party agents.

New year, new look

Cultural Care Au Pair is giving our au pair training school on the Oakdale, New York campus of St. John’s University an updated look with an eye towards the fresh and modern! With our commitment to support our au pairs as they start their year in America, we are updating classrooms, student lounges, and conference rooms to help foster more a engaging environment for our au pairs.
