February Newsletter

Dear Au Pairs and Host Families,

February is a very big month in American culture. It is time for The Super Bowl, which is the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL), the highest level of professional American football in the United States. The day on which the Super Bowl is played is called “Super Bowl Sunday”. It is the second-largest day for U.S. food consumption, after Thanksgiving Day. In addition, the Super Bowl has frequently been the most watched American Television broadcast of the year! This year we are having Super Bowl on February 2nd and Denver Broncos will be playing against Seattle Seahawks! This is a very exciting time for all fans in Colorado!  Make sure you don’t miss the game, famous Super Bowl commercials and the half time show with Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.  Go Broncos!

February 14th! Happy Valentine’s Day! Wishing everyone a warm and wonderful day!

There are plenty of other things to celebrate in the month of February. February is American Heart Month. Throughout the month, volunteers participate in fundraising events to raise money for education and research, while raising awareness about heart disease and stroke. February 2nd brings the always-anticipated Groundhog Day. Punxsutawney Phil is perhaps the most notorious groundhog. This fun-loving rodent has predicted the arrival of spring for over 120 years in the town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. The legend goes if the groundhog sees his shadow spring will not arrive for six more weeks. If the groundhog does not see his shadow, spring is just around the corner!

February 7th kicks off the first day of the Winter Olympics which continues through February 23rd . The 2014 games will be hosted in Sochi, Russia. Obtain the schedule for Winter Olympics games here.

Denver Restaurant Week  is February 22-28. It is a celebration of the culinary scene in Denver. Participating restaurants will offer a multi-course dinner for the fixed price of $60 for two, or $30 for one (not including tax or gratuity).
